My name is Sudiksha Kochi and I am a fact-check reporter for USA TODAY. I am fact-checking a claim
that says the FBI destroyed all of the evidence seized in Jeffrey Epstein's safe. This narrative is
spreading widely in various posts on Twitter and Facebook liked and shared tens of thousands of
times.
I understand from reporting elsewhere that the FBI searched E stein's safe in early July, but I was
looking for a bit more detail than I saw in the testimony from
. Hoping you can help me
out so we're able to write up a response to this claim and attach it to the posts spreading it on social
media.
1. Did the FBI destroy any or all of the evidence seized in Epstein's safe?
2. If not, where are the contents of that safe now?

On 12/16/2021, David Vieser was arrested at his residence in New York, NY for distribution and possession of
child sexual abuse material. By way of background, 09/08/2021, the FBI executed a search warrant at the
residence of Vieser. A review of the devices identified tens of thousands of files of child sexual abuse material.

Ghislaine Maxwell was convicted on 12/29/21 after an approximately 4 week trial for her involvement in the sexual
exploitation and abuse of minors committed by Maxwell and JEFFREY EPSTEIN. MAXWELL assisted, facilitated, and
contributed to EPSTEIN's abuse of minors by recruiting, grooming, and abusing minors they knew to be under the age of
18. MAXWELL was charged and arrested in July 2020 with enticement of a minor, transportation of a minor, conspiracy to
entice a minor, conspiracy to transport a minor, and perjury.
